A Legacy of Praise Born in Coffeyville, Kansas, in 1944, Kenoly’s journey took him from the United States Air Force to the forefront of the Christian music scene. He is perhaps best known for his groundbreaking work with Integrity Music, where he recorded albums that became staples in Christian homes and churches worldwide.
His 1992 album, Lift Him Up, recorded live in Norfolk, Virginia, is widely considered a classic, featuring timeless anthems such as “Lift Him Up,” “Mourning Into Dancing,” and “Ancient of Days.” He followed this success with God Is Able (1994) and Sing Out with One Voice (1995), cementing his status as a pioneer of the modern worship movement. His music was characterized by a rich blend of gospel, soul, and Caribbean influences, always delivered with a spirit of joy and excellence.
Ministry and Impact Beyond his recording career, Dr. Kenoly was a dedicated minister. He served for many years at Jubilee Christian Center in San Jose, California, where he rose from worship leader to Music Pastor and eventually the church’s Ambassador of Music. He was deeply committed to equipping others, earning a Doctorate in Ministry of Sacred Music in 1996 and spending decades teaching and consulting with ministries around the globe.
Family and Survivors Dr. Kenoly is survived by his wife, Diana, whom he married in 2014, and his three sons from his previous marriage of 42 years to Tavita Kenoly: Samuel, Ronald, and Tony. His sons, known collectively as The Kenoly Brothers, have also followed in their father’s footsteps in ministry and music. He is also the cousin of acclaimed American actor Don Cheadle.
